I'm getting the feeling that no one really understands the last name.
Way I figure it, is it is likely modeled after the yellow flowers of the brassica napus. Also known as rape, rapeseed, rapaseed, and so on. A lot of North Americans call it 'Canola Oil', though that's not entirely accurate, though Canola is in fact a cultivar of rapeseed (or field mustard).
When people see the word 'rape', they think of the darker connotation, which is derived from the Latin verb, "rapere". The 'rape' in "Rapeseed" is derived from the Latin word for 'turnip': "rāpum". (Fun fact: one of the varieties of rapeseed that is sold in Japanese markets is called 菜の花 (nanohana).)
So, yes. I'm going to assume it's taken from both the flower, and the darker side of the word "rape", given both her style of modeling and the inspirations she draws from. Of course, that could just be me reading a little too much into it, but all the same. I thought I would throw this out there.
(Fantastic photo, by the way. Apologies for not really having too terribly much to say about it otherwise.)
devilicious is absolutely right about art taking courage. This young woman`s name is Nana Rapeblossom? For me,the word ''rape''is one of the ugliest words in the english language. It`s just one of those ugly words that sounds ugly and that has an ugly meaning.Having said that,I do like this photo(though,I won`t deny that it does have a mildly creepy feel to it,as others are saying-I think the school-girl outfit, that she isn`t crossing her legs, that she looks so young and the slippers, are a part of the reason why that is). She`s cute. The picture, the lighting, the way she`s dressed, the mood, the almost-gothic tone,it reminds me of a Tim Burton movie, stylistically. And Ms...er,Rapeblossom looks like a mix of Abbie Cornish,Chloe Moretz and Taylor Momsen.I agree with that quote from tokikotakahani about all girls being princesses(I think that quote is from A Little Princess, great movie).Nana(since I feel kind of weird saying her last name too many times)`s stare is so intense,it almost feels like she`s staring through you. Great photograph!
I don't understand...? Rape blossom...? why is it so popular too! (maybe because it was so well done but still, I'm confused) I love the bear slippers though cause they give her an inoccent yet creepy ora.
